20 Questions For The Week

So, there is a list of about 50 or so questions. I will be doing those questions 20 or so at the time.  Please bare with me while I am working through them. There will be some that have no real answer to them at this present time.

1.      What is the first book that made you cry?  I don't really remember. There have been so many books that have made me cry.

2.      Does writing energize or exhaust you? Personally, I think it does both. I write for a living. Journalism writing, as in articles, exhaust me. Fiction writing, as in the book that I am working on, energizes me because there is so much freedom about the information to put in them.

3.      What are common traps for aspiring writers? Trying to be just like their favorite writer. You will not write like them. You will never write like them. You will always write like you and it will be your style and it will be awesome. Just have faith in yourself.

4.      Does a big ego help or hurt writers? I think it can do more harm than good but at the same time there is a little help to it.

5.      Have you ever gotten reader’s block? I am currently in a reader's block right now. It is maddening as hell because I love to read and this is the first time that I have experienced this. Reading has always been a medicine thing for me. It has always managed to keep all my pain and all the "monsters" away from me at least for a little while.

6.      Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym? I did while I was in high school but I made the choice to make sure any other work will be published in my name. Even with the works that were published under my maiden name is now under the copyright of my married name.

7.      Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want? I am just starting out and I want my readers to know my original style so I stay original. I write about what I know and what I want to learn.

8.      Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly? This is a hard question. The reason is because the answer is yes and no. It's a yes because wither or not you can feel emotions strongly doesn't mean you can't describe it to the point that others can sense it. It is also no because how can you accurately describe something you can't feel.

9.      If you could tell your younger writing self-anything, what would it be? Not to give up and to not throw out the book series that you wrote in 10th grade.

10.  What authors did you dislike at first but grew into? I haven't really come across an author that I disliked. I have came across many many stories that I have strongly disliked but never an author.

11.  What did you do with your first advance? Haven't gotten on yet. But would love to get one.

12.  What was an early experience where you learned that language had power? I was just a little kid. My papaw was telling my cousins and I a story about his younger days. My only thought was "WHOA! I can even feel and see what he is talking about" and that was when I knew that I wanted to write as a passion.

13.  What are the most important magazines for writers to subscribe to? I work for a magazine so of course I read that one. But other than that, I don't subscribe to any magazines.

14.  How do you balance making demands on the reader with taking care of the reader? The only "demand" I ask of the reader is to bare with me and get through the story before asking any questions. If the book is a part of a series, trust the answers you are looking for will come to light later in the series. If the book is by itself, then you will have all the questions answered.

15.  As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal? A dolphin

16.  What do you owe the real people upon whom you base your characters? My characters are very real people to me. That means that I don't base them off of anyone. I may take someone's first name or last name. But the character's personality will be unlike anyone I actually know.

17.  How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have? Too many to count

18.  What does literary success look like to you? I think literary success is subjective. I am out here writing and doing something I love. Where it is something you like or dislike, it is not up to me. I am not here to change your mind about me. I am here to simply tell you a story. I just hope you happen to like the story.

19.  What’s the best way to market your books? Right now, I am not into marketing my books. Because I am writing on the first one and there isn't anything to market just yet.

20.  What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book? I have been researching this particular series of books for about a month now. I have character profiles of everyone involved with the entire series completed. I have information about moving and owning a business. I have laws and stuff for the two states that are involved.

The Super Busy Life of Beth Pennington

"Why are you always so tired?"
"Why can't you ever cover an evening shift or Saturday shift?"

These are the questions that I get almost all the time. Let me tell you about my schedule and see if I can't clear up a few lingering questions.

Monday - Friday from about 10:30-5:00 (sometimes [usually] just till 3:00) I am at Dairy Queen working. This is my day job. This is the job that helps me pay the bills.

I also have:
Eriks Photo Creations: a photography business owned by me and my husband.
Memphis Lifestyles: a magazine my husband and I freelance as a photojournalism team.
Ashford University: an online college where I am completing my degree in Journalism.
"Leaving the Past Behind": a book I am currently working on writing.

On top of all of that, I have my usual housework and I still try to get out and have fun with my friends and family. My husband and I still try to have a date night at least once every two weeks.

I will also be discussing how I am coming along with the book that I am working on. So this is very exciting for me!! I have to do character profiles, draw a map of a town and get it set up. Then I can start on the chapters!!

First Official Post

Hey! This is my new blog “Beth’s Writings”. It is going to be about what I am writing as far as poetry, stories, or even opinion articles that I write and want to publish. This will also be a blog about my day and life. I hope if you stop to read, you will come back because I do plan on updating at least weekly. There will be a few times when I am updating it almost daily it just depends on what all that I have going on and what all I have to say.

The thing I want to be sure that is clear on this blog is that this will be very baised as to what I believe but I will never come out and say what exactly I believe because I do not want to be political on the internet nor do I want to be religious on it. So, if you do not like what I talk about on this blog, maybe you shouldn’t be reading a blog that is from a personal stand point!

I will also post links to the videos that I like and please do not expect just one type of music because I listen to everything. But these songs that I share will speak to me and I will probably type a little blurb about why I like that song and how it speaks to me.

Also, if you have anything you want to know about how I think, be free to email me at bethsblog05212016@gmail.com or bethpennington2016@gmail.com. I promise to either personally write back to you in the email or post a blog about what the email was about. Also, if you do email me but you don’t want it shared on my blog LET ME KNOW in the email otherwise I might just share it.

My only promise to my readers is this: I promise to keep it tasteful and I promise that I am going to stay true to who I am as a writer and as a person. That is the only promise that I can actually make. Also, if I say information that is not known, I will give a source for the information and a link for you to read what I read.

Beth Pennington

Hey

So this is the welcome post and the all aboit me post. I have the first official post which is what this blog is about at home. I am doing this on my cellphone right now.

Ok, so here goes nothing.

My name is Beth Pennington and I am a writer long story short. Grew up in the Mississippi Delta and there and northwest MS is where I grew up. Typical I have a mom, dad, and an older brother. Bit more than that I have uncles and aunts that love me, cousins that keep me going, nieces amlnd nephews that show me the innoncence of life, a grandma to pray for me. I am also blessed to have a wonderful husband and some amazing friends that are always there for me. My husband has this amazing family that has accepted me and treats me like one of them.

I say I have 3 jobs. I work at Dairy Queen, this I consider as my day job, my husband and I own our own business, Eriks Photi Creations, and we are also a freelance photojournalism team for Memphis Lifestyles magazine.

I love to write. That is my passion in life. My life is bigger than what I can put on this blog. You will probably get to know more about me from my writing than you would ever expect because I pour my life in my writings.

Well, thats all for now. I gotta go to work at DQ! Peace!!!
